Beautiful Symmetry // Lookbook 42

In my previous post I talked about how architecture and building materials are used to define an era. The metal used to build the Eiffel Tower for example was looked upon as crude and unnecessary at the time and yet the landmark achieved iconic status and stands proud as a symbol of the capital. I feel that in the 21st century glass is fighting the same battles. Just look at The Shard in London or Burj Al Arab in Dubai, both are amazing feats of engineering and yet during my visits I heard people scoffing at them.  During my trip to Paris, Louvre's 27-year-old modernist glass pyramid from I.M. Pei was made to disappear—but not permanently. The optical illusion is part of French street artist and photographer JR's latest public installation. By plastering the pyramid's nearly 700 glass segments with enlarged black-and-white photos of the portion of the Louvre Palace, viewers can see the complete stretch of building when looking at it straight on.

As with my previous lookbook from Paris I opted for a simple approach. A one-of-a-kind shirt from Simon Carters SS17 Collection, custom made trousers from Topman, headphones from Master & Dynamic and of course a light bag from Forbes & Lewis.

Paris Greens // Lookbook 41

It wouldn't be a Style Division post without a little style thrown in so here's a little tease of what I was wearing during my European travels this summer. Over time different outfits have become less important in my life and I didn't give a second thought to sacrificing style for comfort. When you're on your feet all day the last thing you want is an outfit that weighs you down throughout your trip. Since the weather gods were smiling on us I opted for the classic Calvin Klein shirt (you can get a set of 3 right here), my trusty Master & Dynamic headphones, Ray Ban sunnies and a bag from Forbes & Lewis.

Not the craziest outfit I ever wore (anyone remember my hamster days?!) but it was perfect for a sunny but breezy day in Paris. Elegant and understated with a few accessories to match. You don't want to put all your bits on in one go either, otherwise you'll look like a walking accessory stand. When in doubt remember that less is always more.

Zara Greens // Lookbook 40

There's a certain kind of rush one gets during a shopping trip. Women tend to plan their shopping days a lot more than men but you cannot deny the excitement you feel when you see that perfect item. With the rise of online shopping retailers have to do a lot more to entice us and brands such as Zara and Burberry have taken it upon themselves to revamp the frankly stale shopping experience. I'm a sucker for a trench coat so during my recent trip to Vienna with Neubau Eyewear I thought it'd be a shame not to make use of our surroundings to shoot a small lookbook.

Since I was a kid green has been my favourite colour so for a little inspiration Jonathan Zegbe (aka Jon The Gold) and I visited the local butterfly house. If you ever want to feel like you're in the Amazon rainforest just spend 10 minutes in this place. A true test of endurance.

Topman Tailoring // Lookbook 39

"The suit is a machine for living in, close-fitting but comfortable armour, constantly revised and reinvented to be, literally, well suited for modern daily life.” – Cally Blackman

As styles change on an almost weekly basis its nice to know that us guys always have a classic fall back option. A man will look his best in a well fitting suit so with this mindset I set out exploring Knightsbridge with my latest tailored piece from Topman.

Bench Original // Lookbook 38

One of my favourite areas to explore in London is Bank / City of London. City of London is actually a city and county within London itself so the name may be a little confusing. Regular readers may have already seen me cover City of London in one of our photo journals but the diversity of the area keeps me coming back.

[separator type="thin"]

Bench Lookbook

[separator type="thin"]

Bench is a British streetwear brand that was founded in Manchester in 1989 and has gone from strength to strength in recent years. They have their own stores all over the world including UK, Germany and Canada where they sell denim, trousers, sweats, hoodies, belts, bags and more. Keeping ears to the streets is a staple of any modern brand so when Bench partnered up with Brit Award winners, Rudimental to be the new faces of their Autumn/Winter 2016 campaign I was beyond excited.

'Baby' and 'Feel the Love' were some of my favourite tracks produced by British artists last year and it's great to see bands you've followed for a while go from strength to strength. Keeping up the streetwear aesthetic I picked out some items from their AW16 range (which you can grab below) and set out exploring Bank on a quiet Sunday morning.

Farah Menswear // Lookbook 37

There's a quote that basically says if you're feeling comfortable then you must not be taking any risks. Greatness begins outside your comfort zone which is why the time has come for me to start thinking about the next chapter for the DIVISION brand. I've been in London for 2 years and it has been an invaluable learning experience. I've met some truly amazing people, explored some unique nooks and crannies and spent way too much on cold coffee.

Before I leave London for good I want to share some lookbook and travel posts with you guys as I get ready for the next chapter of my journey. I don't know exactly where it'll lead but I do know it's going to be nothing less than exciting!

[separator type="thin"]

Farah Menswear

[separator type="thin"]

Farah is one of my favourite British menswear brands and their sleek and understated designs have been a staple of my wardrobe for the last few years. Remember the crisp oxford shirt I was rocking in my North / South Divide Lookbook? Well if white isn't your colour then the new slim fit shirt in burgundy can really spice up a look. With autumn just around the corner the harrington jacket is perfect for those windy days while it's light fabric means it can be mixed with other items in your wardrobe.

Topman // Lookbook 36

Been sitting on this for one for a while but I finally have the chance to share a lookbook I did for Topman for their Great Britain, Great Suits campaign. Shot by the super talented Annabel Lake around Shoreditch, I opted for the skinny black suit to keep things nice and classy. Its elegant design turned what could have been a cumbersome afternoon into a really enjoyable one.

[separator type="thin"]

Great Britain, Great Suits

[separator type="thin"]

The Great Britain, Great Suits campaign rounded up the UK's best bloggers including Craig from That Dapper Chap and Jaime from Boy Meets Fashion to pick a suit style that reflects their favourite city. As many of you may have read I travel to Leeds on a semi regular basis so couldn't miss an opportunity to spread the love for one of my favourite UK cities.

An outfit is incomplete until you add a few personal touches to it. My favourite Hard Graft bag was safely by my side as a testament to its quality. With continued use the leather has changed to a more rugged, darker tone although it hasn't lost any of its original atheistic.

The Withings Activite smartwatch is still safely on my wrist thanks to a battery that doesn't have to be charged every few days. I recently ordered some new straps for it as white tends to get grimy very quickly. Just something to think about if you fancy ordering one 🙂

Uncle Jack Watch // Lookbook 35

Men tend to misunderstand women when it comes to shoes. "Surely one pair is enough!" they'll exclaim and yet if you give any man a choice of beautiful watches they'll say "Can I keep them ALL?". As women are drawn towards elegant products, men are drawn towards the intricate and mechanical. It's in our nature so why fight it?

This crazy theory of mine was put to the test when Uncle Jack were kind enough to send me a watch from their latest collection. Safe to say I fell in love with it instantly. The simple white face ensures it's compatibility with a huge number of outfits and a light tan leather strap can be quickly changed should it suffer some wear and tear. Make sure to check out the full collection and pick a style that suits you as there's bound to be one that takes your fancy. And don't forget to use the £10 discount code!

Withings Activité Steel // Lookbook 34

If you're a regular reader of Style Division you may have noticed me gushing over the Withings Activité Steel watch in my last lookbook and wearables comparison posts. Now that the watch has been in my possession for a few months I can testify its ease of use and overall versatility. Whether I'm going for a run or dressing up for a night out the smartwatch perfectly complements every outfit. I've recently picked up some green interchangeable straps to vary it up a bit but just a heads up, you're going to be seeing a lot more from Withings in the future 🙂

Those Who Lose Dreaming Are Lost // Lookbook 33

Sometimes it's easy to forget how fortunate we are to live in London and have iconic structures such as Tower Bridge and St Paul's Cathedral literally a tube stop or two away. People take time off work and come here on their holidays so a few weeks ago Lucy from LJLV and I met up to bask in the sunshine and snap a few pics outside the iconic St Paul's.

St Paul's Cathedral

It seems that every time I wear Ralph Lauren, St Paul's is the destination. The ‘new’ St Paul’s Cathedral was designed in English Baroque style in 1708 by a mathematician Sir Christopher Wren as the word for architect was yet to be invented.

Last time I explored the area with Themba Overdaux I mentioned that St Paul's Cathedral was part of a major rebuilding project after the Great Fire of London and over the years it has become an iconic landmark.

Skyscraper designs have actually had to be altered to ensure the view of the famous dome isn't obstructed from locations such as Alexandra Palace or Primrose Hill.

Spring / Summer has got to be my favourite time of the year. The clocks have gone forward to we get an extra hour to top up that Vitamin D. It's also an excuse to wear sunglasses you haven't touched since that holiday many moons ago.

Again, I partnered up with Infinities (who supplied me with the grey Ralph Lauren hoody in my Lincoln post) to showcase another Ralph Lauren item - the forever iconic polo. For me the Ralph Lauren polo is a quintessential staple of any summer wardrobe. Make sure you get the original rather than a copy though as they may look identical but you'll see the difference after just a few washes.

St Paul's Cathedral - Dome

[separator type="thin"]

Wren drew inspiration from Michelangelo's dome of St Peter's Basilica and Mansart's Church of the Val-de-Grâce when designing the famous dome. The dome design was radically modified even as it was being built –something that's unheard of in contemporary architectural practice. The church was against the dome altogether until Christopher Wren spent most of his own savings on constructing a small replica of the final design to win over the hearts of the people in charge.
