Bailey Nelson London // Lookbook 23

Happy 2016 everyone! January in London means the start of fashion season so in-between my work with UnsignedGRP and running around LCM taking street style shots for Fucking Young Mag, I managed to take some OOTD shots with my boy Joey London using his new camera. I gotta say the Sigma lens is a work of art, perfect for action snaps and the quality of the images is simply pristine. Watch this space 🙂

PRINCELET STREET

The location for the shoot was Princelet Street, one of the oldest streets in London. It actually makes you feel like you're walking through a piece of history with townhouses dating back to the 18th and 19th centuries. As a lover of architecture you can't help but look up and admire the diversity of it all.

The Museum of Immigration (a Grade II listed building) is also located on Princelet Street and tells the story of Jewish immigrants who fled persecution back home in France and, like many different nationalities to follow them, settled as immigrants in Spitalfields.

Since my eyesight is slowly catching up to all those late nights reading sci-fi books, Bailey Nelson were the first point of call for a new pair of specs. With stores all over London and a complementary eye test, Bailey Nelson were great at guiding me through their process and within a few days I received a text message telling me that my new glasses were ready to collect.

I paired up the glasses with my trusty Zara trenchie which I haven't had a chance to wear since my trip to Venice, some new kicks from Converse and a jumper from the new kid on the scene - Old Harry Knitwear. The jumper kept me warm and cosy as the weather in London at the moment is unfriendly to say the least and it's classic look and feel is something that many high street brands will find hard to replicate.

In terms of accessories my trusty Marshall Headphones are still doing their job a year down the line and the backpack from Moleskine is as nice to touch as it is to look at. It's also designed specifically for digital devices so if like me you like to carry your cameras and laptops everywhere this purchase should be a no brainer. The sleek Ice City Leyton watch was ordered from Ice Watch and did not let me down once during LCM. It's neat brown design was a perfect accompaniment to the entire outfit.

PlusMinus Magazine Shoot // Lookbook 22

It's hard to keep up with all the goings on in the fashion industry but one thing that may have caught your eye is the steady rise of mens fashion blogging. This site is a small testament to that but there are hundreds of us who want to make their voices heard.

This is why Jodie from alajode organised a small interview and photoshoot for her new magazine PlusMinus a few months back. I was joined by Adam from Male Stylist and Benji from 21st Century Gent (the old Style Collective) for a small shoot near Liverpool St. The photography was done by the supremely talented Sarah Anne Choa.

Mens blogging is more than just fashion although when living in a large metropolis such as London it's a huge part of every day life. A blog can be anything you want it to be and should reflect your own personality, once you get over that initial writing speedbump it no longer feels like work.

Make sure to read the full interview in PlusMinus Magazine as it might give you a better view of my thoughts on this ever growing trend.

A Stroll Through Leeds with River Island // Lookbook 21

It's that time of the year again and winter is coming which means I have to brave the cold and venture up to friendly Yorkshire in the north of England. Saying that, I couldn't think of a better setting to grab a few shots for a small River Island Christmas campaign featuring fellow bloggers 21st Century Gent, Jordan Bunker and Q Mike.

kings cross St Pancras International

As usual the day starts off at Kings Cross station and if you ignore the busloads of French teenagers taking selfies at Harry Potter corner it's a gorgeous building in it's own right having been redeveloped by John McAslan + Partners in time for the London 2012 Olympics.

The Booking Office is my usual port of call before a train journey. Salmon over scrambled eggs is never too heavy on the stomach and a cheeky Bloody Mary cocktail is sure to perk you up better than any coffee ever could.

It's also minutes away from your departure platform so why not give it a visit?

Upon arriving in Leeds I'm immediately transported to 2012 when I was just a young and naive graduate wandering the streets in the hope of finding a job. Fortunately this isn't the case anymore but it was still mighty interesting to see the city where I spent so many years grow and modernise, yet retain that indescribable northern charm that made it special.

I was joined by Emily from Emtalks as we explored Victoria Quarter and the city centre without worry or obligation whilst sharpening our photography skills and making use of the historical backdrops that were available to us.

To get in the Christmas spirit River Island were kind enough to send me a few early presents of the wearable variety and seeing as I'm a sucker for a mac they hit the look right on the money. The dark green military mac coat accompanied me every day during my northern adventure and it's lightweight nature made it perfect for the wind and drizzle I encountered.

Leeds Architecture

I'm always fascinated by architecture and how a certain style can shape the look of a city or even transport you back to a certain time period. For example, the Leeds Civic Hall (above) was the result of a competition held in 1926 and only took 2 years to complete which is astounding considering the time during which it was built.

The mac also proved easy to style as the colours of my dark green colour block roll neck jumper and black lined nubuck leather desert boots perfectly matched it's dark green (almost army like) tones. The dark colours also ensured the outfit wasn't too ostentatious as it's important to feel comfortable in whatever you're wearing rather than feeling self conscious in something you didn't want to wear in the first place.

Autumn in London with John Lewis // Lookbook 20

If I'm being completely honest with myself I feel that autumn has got to be the perfect season. Summer has got its moments with carefree bike rides and cider induced adventures yet only in autumn can you see some of your favourite areas transform from vivid greens to claret reds before your very eyes. And don't forget the festivities, from Halloween to Bonfire Night and early Christmas markets that conjure up their own unique atmosphere. Sometimes I feel that autumn is a little unappreciated.

On the day I was joined by JK from Unimited by JK as we went for a morning stroll through the Household of Cavalry Museum, the adjacent St James's Park, Victoria Memorial and Buckingham Palace. The park itself was fully transformed from the last time I paid it a visit as now the floor was covered in crunchy orange leaves signalling the arrival of the inevitable cold weather.

THE DETAILS

Speaking of cold weather, I was born in Ukraine so personally don't have much of a problem with it and as a blogger it allows for much more robust outfit combinations and of course layers! For this outfit I went with a Claret Technical Mac by John Lewis, a Ted Baker jumper and shirt, trousers from Next and plimsolls from ASOS. If you excuse the randomness of the patterns I think the whole outfit has a pretty lightweight feel. Perfect for those breezy mornings.

The mac which I have worn religiously over the past few weeks deserves it's own mention. As it's crafted from a breathable fabric it's incredibly light and easy to style with whatever you might have in your wardrobe.

Alternatively, if you wish to go for the recent Jose Mourinho look the collar is made of sturdy leather which means it can be popped up and matched with numerous winter accessories from scarves to gloves and even bobbly hats.

Green PARKs

There's something about a good walk that just clears your head. Whether healthblog247.com/using-phentermine-weight-loss/ it's the fresh air, good company or a change of scenery I feel a walk can really get the creative juices flowing.

St James's and Green Parks are perfect for this as you get a snapshot of what London is really about. You're enveloped by history as on one side

A walk is also a great way to snap yourself out of context. It's easy to take things around you for granted and I do sometimes forget that people come to London

as part of their holidays. The next time you have a free morning why not explore a new part of your city, no more putting it off until the mood strikes you 🙂

green park london vscocam

Green Park was such a welcome surprise as the carpet of red and yellow transported you back to an almost childlike carefree state where a morning spent

kicking leaves didn't seem like a bad option. The history behind the park is anything but childlike as it was notoriously used as a duelling ground

and a haunt of highwaymen and thieves. During the 18th and 19th centuries the park became a place for ballooning attempts and public firework displays. As part of the Queen Victoria Memorial construction numerous pieces of architecture were constructed to give the park character such as the Admiralty Arch and Canada Gate (above)

Exploring St Paul’s Cathedral with Ralph Lauren // Lookbook 19

For my latest lookbook I decided to team up with an old Style Divisioner Themba and get up close and personal with St Paul’s Cathedral, an iconic London landmark that has truly stood the test of time. St Paul’s sits on Ludgate Hill, the highest point of the City of London and is responsible in shaping the look of the skyscrapers in the city because views of the cathedral are protected from various prominent London locations.

As part of a major rebuilding after the Great Fire of London the ‘new’ St Paul’s Cathedral was designed in the English Baroque style by a mathematician Sir Christopher Wren as the word for architect was yet to be invented. Christopher Wren overcame a number of challenges during its 36 year build including a sinking foundation, hostility from parliament as well as numerous financial and architectural challenges.

The famous dome which drew inspiration from Michelangelo's dome of St Peter's Basilica was also considered distasteful by the church and they tried their upmost to remove it from the initial plans until Christopher Wren spent most of his own savings constructing a model of the cathedral to convince them otherwise. This model is still on display in St Paul’s should you ever wish to see it.

As the old quote goes, “It’s always nice to look nice” so for this adventure I wore a Solid Oxford Sport Shirt from Ralph Lauren which is 100% pure cotton and retains the feel of the classic Ralph Lauren polo shirt.

The button down was paired nicely with a simple grey blazer from Reiss and as always the smaller details make the outfit so don’t be afraid to experiment.

I picked out a gold lapel pin and sunglasses from ASOS as this really added to the casual style I was going for while the Ralph Lauren Oxford is sleek enough to be worn on it’s own. Remember, real men wear pink 🙂

Exploring City of London with Farrell Clothing // Lookbook 18

One can get very complacent when living in London as having so many historical landmarks a few underground stops away makes it easy to put off visiting them. This is until you realise that over the last few months you’ve hardly explored the city most people come to visit on their holidays so I donned myself head to toe in the latest Farrell Clothing range, grabbed a mate and a camera and went on a little morning wander around a small borough aptly named ‘City of London’.

TOWER OF LONDON

Tower of London is a historic castle that’s situated on the borders between the City of London and Tower Hill. Built by William the Conqueror in 1078 and used as a prison until 1952, the infamous Kray twins were one of the last prisoners to serve time here.

TOWER BRIDGE

Another City of London landmark is Tower Bridge which crosses the River Thames and connects the Southwark bank to Tower Hamlets. Opened in 1894, Tower Bridge drew its fair share of criticism, some going as far as calling it ‘pretencious’ but it’s hard to deny its current iconic status.

ASOS As Seen On Me // Lookbook 16

Following on from my previous ASOS street style post, Miles and I delved further into Shoreditch and then onto Exchange House in Liverpool St to really bring the lookbook together. With autumn weather hitting full stride in the last few days I feel that a woolly hat and a nice parka coat should be essential purchases for any modern day gent looking to keep warm and stylish.

[separator type="thin"]

A coat can be one of the biggest clothing purchases you make all year so ASOS are currently running 'The Coat Vote' which lets you vote for your favourite coat type and a chance to win one on the 3rd of October. The parka has been growing in popularity over the last few seasons and for good reason. It's very easy to layer with other items in your wardrobe and it's anything-goes style shouldn't leave you with a headache when getting ready.

The parka coat was made by the British brand Native Youth who fuse Japanese-style details with Scandinavian prints in their collections. As I'm a sucker for small details their latest outerwear pieces have left me impressed and you have to agree that the style suits Shoreditch down to a T.

LIVERPOOL ST. LOOKBOOK

After soaking in the street art around Shoreditch and Brick Lane we moved onto Liverpool Street that's famous for it's hectic atmosphere and looming, glass filled skyscrapers. The majority of the area is taken up by Liverpool Street Station which stretches underground in every direction. Towering over the railway tracks is Exchange House which was built in 1990 by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill.

The open design of Exchange House allows you to see the 'inner workings' of the building which is essentially an inhabited bridge with a frame that's supported by four parabolic arches. As a side note, the walk between Shoreditch and Liverpool Street is well worth your time as you get to see beautiful modern architecture entwined with street art pieces from artists such as Joel Bergner (cover photo) and James Cochran (above).

Just want to say a big thank you to Lucyn for planning the whole shoot as someone who is very impulsive I need people to keep me organised. The photographer was Miles Drury who managed to get the best out of my shy self and I would highly recommend you check out more of his work HERE.

ASOS As Seen On Me – Shoreditch Street Style // Lookbook 15

Last week I was lucky to be invited by AccessAllASOS to take part in a small shoot for the As Seen On Me campaign. We ended up shooting around Shoreditch and Liverpool Street as these locations served as the perfect backdrop for the two outfits I ended up putting together.

[separator type="thin"]

Although now part of Inner London, Shoreditch was previously an external suburb of the City of London. Over the years (most notably during the second 'dot-com' boom) the suburb has become popular with London-based tech companies and began to be recognised as one of the most vibrant areas of the capital.

My look was heavily influenced by the young Shoreditch crowds who are always on the go yet do not wish to sacrifice comfort for style. A pair of plimsolls and some grey joggers are very easy to style as they go with pretty much anything you have in your wardrobe and ASOS do a jogger double pack which contains a black variety if grey isn't your colour.

A long sleeve baseball tee from Nicce London complemented the black bomber jacket which really completed the outfit and with colder days almost upon us, a long sleeve shirt and a light autumn jacket are the perfect choices.

All Saints at Bedford Square // Lookbook 14

A few weeks ago I got in touch with Joe Galvin who's a 22 year old blogger and aspiring photographer to see if there was a chance we could grab a couple of shots during another hectic day in the capital. Luckily he obliged and here's a small glimpse of the shots we managed to take:

[separator type="thin"]

bedford square lookbook

The location Joe chose was Bedford Square in the Bloomsbury district of the Borough of Camden. It was built between 1775 and 1783 as an upper middle class residential area and is one of the best preserved set pieces of Georgian architecture in London.

You can tell the shoot took place when I was still living in Camden and sporting some terrible facial fuzz as that was the 'look' at the time. Laziness also played a part 🙂

I went for a simple outfit you may have seen me sporting in my PlusMinus Magazine shoot. My home country colours of Ukraine (blue and yellow) were represented as well as my trusty leather jacket from Zara Men which is a little on the chunky side but perfect for those rainy London days. The shoes were probably my favourite part of the outfit as they're part of the new All Saints autumn collection and they were bright purple! How could you not go for that?

1Face Charity Watch – Make A Difference // Lookbook 13

Let's start out with a question. How much money do you spend every month on things you don't even need? From over priced designer clothes to that £3 coffee on your way to work? In the end it all adds up and the unnecessary purchases we make can actually end up biting us in the rear. Once in a while you need to spend money on someone other than yourself although it can be hard when there is no outright benefit (basic human nature is not a kind mistress).

1:Face Watch believes that one person can literally change the world. Millions of people need food, medical attention and clean water and there are millions more that can help change that. One person has the power to feed a child, quench a thirst and find a cure to an illness and this is exactly where you come in.

[separator type="thin"]

waterloo street art

Move beyond the basic wristband to show your support for a cause that's close to your heart with a sleek digital watch. 1:Face comes in nine different colors – each representing a different issue: hunger, water, breast cancer, cancer, the environment and more. With every purchase, you’ll be able to help individuals and communities and sometimes there's no better feeling.

The watches are designed at the Mirza Minds headquarters in Chicago and assembled in China. There is a 3-month warranty if the watch is defective from the manufacturer or if it is broken in shipping. And all watches are 3ATM water resistant which means you can take the watch up to 96 feet under the water.

My chosen colour was orange which ensured a loving home for 1 animal out there in the world. It was hard to choose one cause over another but with the recent news of Cecil the lion and rise in poaching I felt that some little furry creature really needed my help. So don't wait too long, make sure you visit the 1:Face website and support a charity of your choice.

My 1:Face watch joined me on my trip to Montengero last week and it was the perfect companion during our 7 active days in this forgotten Balkan state. I somehow managed to lose my phone so the post next week will be a little light on visuals but here's a little preview of the beauty that surrounded us:
