Humans of Ukraine

Let me introduce you to one of my favourite words - Sonder. Sonder is the realisation that each person is living a life as vivid and complex as your own—populated with their own ambitions, friends, routines, worries and inherited craziness. Everyone you've ever known, met or heard about lives an epic story that continues invisibly around you and in turn encompasses thousands of other lives that you’ll never know existed.

Stories All Around

There are stories all around, a camera just helps me capture that unique moment in time. A picture like a postcard from your travels can bring you back to a specific moment and remind you of the emotions you were feeling at the time. So building on my travels around Ukraine (Lviv and Mountains Part 2 are my favourites) I decided to dedicate a small post to my family and the people I met along the way.

Humans of London // Journal 84

Have you guys heard of Humans of New York? It's a blog / photography project started by Brandon Stanton a few years ago that tells stories of everyday New Yorkers by simply letting them talk about themselves. It has captured the imagination of millions and has gone on to become New York Times N1 bestseller. As much as I love my mini street style projects, capturing this unique moment in time has become a small obsession recently. The real story always lives on the street, not in a studio, so after my initial ode to London's architecture I decided that the wonderful people of the capital also deserved a special mention.

If you ever heard the word 'sonder' it may put my obsession with stories in a better perspective. The realisation that everyone around us is living a vivid and complex life, while dealing with everyday struggles puts a beautiful spin on things. As you walk around a city it's interesting to imagine that every window and door holds its own share of human secrecy. Only a few places can provide this incessant variety of life and I'm glad to say London is one of them.

I love using DVSN as a space to share my work and general thoughts about life. I plan to travel a lot more in 2017 and focus on things that make me truly happy. With the recent political reforms in the UK I find it increasingly difficult to see a bright future here and as much as I'm grateful to this country for the opportunities it's given me I feel the time is right to move on. Holland is looking like the most likely destination so if anyone from Amsterdam is reading this I would love to hear from you. Otherwise I hope you enjoy the upcoming posts from Riga, Amsterdam and Malta and make sure to use the social links at the bottom of this post to say hello 🙂

European Street Style // Journal 77

I never really understood what people meant by 'catching the travel bug' but after my first solo trip abroad to Rome last year I've been itching to see more of Europe. Since then I've been all around Italy, Barcelona, Portugal, Vienna, Paris and more to really broaden my world view. Discovering new cultures and people really opens up your eyes to the insignificant differences between us. It's something that has to be experiences rather than read about but I have to do my bit. It's easy to think that the country you grew up in is the best in the world but please understand that your limited world view is holding you back. In terms of fashion there is no 'right' style. A person wears what they're comfortable in and who can tell them otherwise. In this post I collated some of my street style snaps that I took during my travels to showcase the ever changing European fashions:

[separator type="thin"]

Parisian styles offered the most variety and French people were very down to earth when I asked to take their picture. Minimal and elegant, Parisians tend to dress for themselves and look comfortable with whatever they're wearing. No wonder most of this post is dedicated to them.

During my time with Neubau Eyewear I got the chance to explore the lovely city of Vienna. Although I didn't have the right lens with me I managed to snap a few photos. Austrians were much more reserved with their outfits, preferring something that didn't draw too much attention but looked cool and effortless nontheless.

[separator type="thin"]

After my time in London I decided that Amsterdam will be my next destination. The Dutch are the most laid back and friendly people I have had the pleasure of encountering plus they don't take themselves too seriously. A major plus when choosing a city to live in. London and New York are great but I can't help but laugh at the seriousness of it all. I only had a few hours to shoot in Amsterdam during my first time there so the next street style set will be much more curated.

Rome & Bologna Street Style

Ever heard the expression, “When in Rome, do as the Romans do”? Well during my visit to Rome I managed to completely smash the lens on my trusty Fujifilm camera. Instead of getting upset I decided to do a small 'farewell' series to the old lady by taking some street style shots of the people I met during my travels. Some of the images were completely unsalvageable or overexposed but sometimes it doesn't matter if you still have the memories.

[separator type="thin"]

[separator type="thin"]

While outside the Colosseum I met two Italian girls who come to this spot every day to sharpen their illustrating skills and it reminded me of a chat I had with Phil Dean (aka The Shoreditch Sketcher) and the importance of cherishing the little details in life. As a side note, the Colosseum during sunset is pretty magical. Definitely one to tick off the bucket list.

I haven't done a street style series in a while so it was thrilling to get back into the swing of things. LCM is just around the corner so hit me up using the email below if you wish to link up. In the meantime I'm slowly getting used to the Sigma lens so expect plenty more street style posts in the future.

LCM SS17 Day 3 Street Style // Journal 56

As the batteries in my camera and my body were draining LCM Day 3 (View DAY 1 and DAY 2) provided little in way of street style. Rain dampened proceedings but the Meitu #FacesOfFashion team still managed to attend a number of runway shows and presentations. As a side note I've been experimenting with different filters and colour grades in my recent street style photos but hey, gotta practice, practice, practice!

LCM SS17 Day 2 Street Style // Journal 55

Meitu #FacesOfFashion took LCM by storm and now that the hectic weekend has passed I can finally sit down and look through the different styles everyone was rocking. As the late Bill Cunningham put it "fashion is always on the street" and there's no right way to dress so put on whatever makes you feel 110% and rock it with confidence. You're your own worst critic 🙂

Following up from LCM DAY 1 we continue our journey and aim to bring you the latest from behind the scenes of London Collections: Men with Oliver Proudlock, Andrew Cooper, Joey London, Eva Herzigova, Stephen James and Diego Barrueco.

LCM SS17 Day 1 Street Style // Journal 54

In the grand scheme of things London Collections Men is still in its infancy and yet it feels like it could give London Fashion Week a run for its money. A few weeks ago the talent and marketing agency Unsigned GRP partnered up with the Chinese app maker Meitu to bring the London vibe to its ever expanding platform.

We're becoming more and more engrossed in our phones so Meitu decided to create simple yet beautiful apps such as BeautyPlus and MakeupPlus which are sure to give Facetune a run for its money. They're also completely free so if you want to test out a look or improve your selfie look no further.

Unsigned have managed to get some truly spectacular names on board for their #FacesOfFashion campaign with Oliver Proudlock, Diego Barrueco, Andrew Cooper, Joey London and Eva Herzigova joining forces to show what London during LCM is all about.

Make sure to follow the #tag on Twitter and Instagram to be the first in the know as the team over at Unsigned have some truly exciting projects up their sleeve. Until next time - Anton Dee.

Graduate Fashion Week 2016 Street Style

Oh to be young and naive again, when the world is welcoming to your crazy ideas and it feels like nothing can go wrong. With that mindset I set out into Shoreditch to grab some street style snaps during Graduate Fashion Week and see what kind of styles the new generation was rocking.

Guys of London Fashion Week AW16 Street Style // Photography Journal 38

Although London Fashion Week is predominantly a female affair, mens fashion trends can shine through. Most guys make an exception during fashion week as the ‘anything goes’ mentality is often encouraged so overly bright colours, crazy patterns and unusual accessories such as skateboards aren’t unusual. Here are some of my favourite snaps:

Girls of London Fashion Week AW16 Street Style // Photography Journal 37

It's that time of the year again and after heading out nice and early for LCM last month I thought I'd continue in that vein and continue this unnatural streak of motivation. London Fashion Week is a totally different animal in comparison to LCM and the outfits on view really show this. I'm actually becoming quite jealous of the combinations you girls can get away with 🙂

Brewer Street was again full of excitement and it was awesome to briefly catchup with a few street style photographers who I've got to know over the last couple of months. It really is a tireless art and I now have a newfound appreciation for anyone who does this for a living.

With styles ranging from classic overcoats to the more daring bomber jackets and oversized trenches there was plenty on offer for the fashion lover in me. With SS17 happening in September I honestly cannot contain my excitement 🙂
