3 Fashtech Surprises from the CES Technology Tradeshow

Over the past few years there has been a surge of fashion and technology amalgamating together to form what has come to be known as fashtech. Wearable entertainment items fused with clothing has become the latest trend sweeping across the world. Leading the way was of course Apple's iWatch and Google's Glasses, each having varying levels of success, but those were only the beginning. Wearable tech is taking off in such a way that other brands have taken note and are teeming with ideas.

Recently the CES 2016 event showcased many of these upcoming inventions, and with such a vast amount to pick from, we have carefully chosen our top 3 standout fashtech pieces from the show:

[separator type="thin"]

CES - SAMSUNG SMARTSUIT

One such brand at the forefront of this pairing of clothing and technology is Samsung, not exactly a stranger to ever advancing technology, the brand has stepped into the fashion ring with a line of smart clothing. Leading the pack is their smartsuit, something you could envision MI6 creating for a certain double 0 Agent.

The cuff of the suit contains a near field communication chip enabling instant connection to your smart phone, boasting features and tasks such as exchanging business cards to clients or simply unlocking your phone as you remove it from your pocket. In the future, it is touted as being able to make payments with a flick of your cuff.

CES – SAMSUNG SMARTSUIT

In addition to the suit, Samsung also unveiled a shirt with the NFC chip, primarily aimed at golf enthusiasts, giving up to date weather reports so they know just how long to play on course. Additionally monitoring your heart and breathing to keep a check on your health.

[separator type="thin"]

CES - ORPHE LED SHOES

Next up we have the Orphe shoes, a spectacular pair of sneakers featuring LED lighting. Purchase Levitra online https://www.caladrius.com/levitra/ review. With a stark contrast to the endless fitness based fashtech shoes at the show, these are purely for entertainment purposes. The lights can adapt to the surrounding music, changing colours to the beat, ideal for dancing away at your local nightclub. The colours can also be manually changed via your smartphone, connected by Bluetooth. You thought Giuseppe Zanotti sneakers were out there, think again!

led shoes fashtech sneakers

Another interesting feature is the inclusion of a 9-Axis motion sensor, enabling the shoes to record the movements of the user and whenever the shoe touches the floor. This feature is so the user can record 'scenes' to be able to share with others, the data produced is a combination of light, sound and movement. The final cool addition is the ability to add sound effects to when the shoe touches the floor, thus a virtual tap dance shoe can be created. Available in both white and black, a perfect plain canvas to showcase the illumination of the lights.

[separator type="thin"]

CES - 2016 Memoni Memory Mirror

Finally, we have the Memoni Memory Mirror, personally this one is the most exciting and could potentially change how we shop for clothes in the future! This device can actually change the colour of the clothing product you are wearing whilst viewed in the mirror. No need to try on endless colours to get the right one for you! With a simple hand gesture or using a mobile app you can scroll through an unlimited selection of different colours and hues.

CES – 2016 MEMONI MEMORY MIRROR

It also gives a full 360 degree view of the clothing as your reflection twists and turns. Hopefully soon department stores will start taking advantage of this unbelievable tech and begin implementing it. This could cut down shopping time in half and definitely something to keep an eye on.

Tower Bridge, London – Enveloped by Architecture // Lookbook 28

I recently acquired one of those daily calendars that teaches you new words and a word I keep coming back to this week is 'Flânerie'. The word 'Flânerie' describes the simple act of strolling while 'flâneur' describes a man who saunters around observing society. The next time you're feeling bored or restless, why not take a simple stroll, who knows what adventures you might find?

[separator type="thin"]

Enveloped by Architecture

This week my walks haven't taken me far as London's numerous nooks and crannies are probably infinite, yet when Tower Bridge is only down the road you kinda owe it to yourself. As I mentioned in a previous lookbook, Tower Bridge was mocked when it was first constructed with some people going as far as calling it pretentious and yet it stands the test of time.

The entire area is an architects wet dream with The Shard protruding from the distance and the Tower of London sitting proudly in the middle. You're surrounded by numerous historical landmarks such as the Tower Hill Memorial and All Hallows By The Tower Church or if you're after a little more solitude, the Saint Dunstan Church Garden is only a few minutes away.

It wouldn't be a Style Division post without an outfit update so as usual my Burberry scarf and Bailey Nelson specs were right by my side as well as the always elegant Daniel Wellington timepiece. The pea coat was purchased from Reiss a few months ago and I honestly wish you could feel it through the screen, the fabric is immaculate.

Guys of London Fashion Week AW16 Street Style // Photography Journal 38

Although London Fashion Week is predominantly a female affair, mens fashion trends can shine through. Most guys make an exception during fashion week as the ‘anything goes’ mentality is often encouraged so overly bright colours, crazy patterns and unusual accessories such as skateboards aren’t unusual. Here are some of my favourite snaps:

Girls of London Fashion Week AW16 Street Style // Photography Journal 37

It's that time of the year again and after heading out nice and early for LCM last month I thought I'd continue in that vein and continue this unnatural streak of motivation. London Fashion Week is a totally different animal in comparison to LCM and the outfits on view really show this. I'm actually becoming quite jealous of the combinations you girls can get away with 🙂

Brewer Street was again full of excitement and it was awesome to briefly catchup with a few street style photographers who I've got to know over the last couple of months. It really is a tireless art and I now have a newfound appreciation for anyone who does this for a living.

It's easy to get complacent, especially with photography. You may get stuck doing the same thing you've always done which makes you lose that creative spark that first got you into this never ending hobby. This is why you should always be on the lookout for unique photo spots or opportunities to wander with like minded people. For my latest journal post I was joined by Annabel Lake and Richard Harris who will put my photos to shame but hey, gotta surround yourself with talented people 🙂

Leeds, West Yorkshire // Photography Journal 35

Even though I live in one of the busiest cities in the world it's always nice to get a breath of fresh air (literally and figuratively) and venture back to Yorkshire, a county full of history and until last year a place I called home. I've returned to Leeds a number of times in the past but during each visit it's rewarding to find new areas to explore or even find new perspectives around everyday places people take for granted.

Leeds, West Yorkshire

My love affair with Leeds started in 2012 when I was a lone graduate with no clue about the world or even blogging for that matter. With an expensive piece of paper from an international university under my belt I decided to take my chances and make the big move up north. Settling in was surprisingly easy although it does help that Yorkshire residents are a friendly bunch. The city itself is surprisingly small although where it lacks in size it more than makes up in fun and character.

Leeds Kirkgate Market

leeds vsco journal yorkshire england fujifilm

Leeds Kirkgate Market holds a special place in my heart as this was the place I came to every Sunday looking for fresh produce, chatting with the loud locals and grabbing a crepe with chocolates and bananas. Sometimes you just gotta treat yourself, unfortunately my 'sometimes' was becoming 'oftentimes' and I had to kick the habit no matter how much my stomach pleaded. If you do find yourself in Leeds do yourself a favour and visit this magical place, you won't regret it.

It wouldn't be a Style Division post without a mini lookbook thrown in 🙂 Recently I've been enjoying the leather products from a company called Bellroy who manufacture leather accessories such as wallets, passport holders and phone cases.

As someone who tends not to carry a wallet I've become fiercely attached to mine. The attention to detail and immaculate designs instantly separate them from the pack and of course there's the undeniable durability factor that makes these accessories perfect for unfavourable weather conditions.

Leeds, West Yorkshire VSCOCAM

I've had a few questions from people asking me about filters that I put on my photos. The truth is that VSCOCam has saved me time and time again and their darker, grungier filters give my photos the look that I'm really proud of. Minimal, dark and understated although I would advise you to play around, you never know what your eye might like.

Farrell Clothing // Lookbook 27

Farrell Clothing has been featured on Style Division before in our Shoreditch and City of London lookbooks but yesterday was one of those rare days when sunshine filled the air and I the light conditions were nigh on perfect. Shooting with Themba Erik in West London, the location overlooked some historic Victorian townhouses and made me realise just how diverse this city is. If you like the look check out some similar items below and hype it up on Lookbook if you like 🙂

London King’s Cross Station // Photography Journal 34

The King's Cross railway station, made famous by Harry Potter and always a source of inspiration to the 50 million people who stroll through it every year. The Western Concourse is Europe’s largest single span station structure and to get it ready for the London 2012 Olympics John McAslan + Partners were asked to flex their creative muscle and create something truly memorable.

London King's Cross Station

The transformation of King’s Cross Station involved three very different styles of architecture: re-use, restoration and new build. The train shed and range buildings have been adapted and re-used, the station’s previously obscured Grade I listed façade has been precisely restored, and a new, highly expressive Western Concourse has been designed as a centrepiece and the 'beating heart' of the project.

My Favourite Looks from 2015

To go alongside my 2015 Overview I thought I'd throw together a few of my favourite outfits that I had the pleasure of wearing last year. Depending on the day my style can go from super smart to super casual but it's always nice to have choices!

Taken on Tottenham Court Road, this was actually one of my first ever outfit posts.

I'm wearing one of the warmest Ted Baker coats I've ever owned and a Burberry scarf to boot although it seems that a year later the cold weather in London is still to get the hint that it's not welcome.

Adam from Male Stylist and I explored the London Embankment and it's surrounding areas for this post.

Wearing a custom made Ownonly suit and my trusty Ray Bans, this smart-casual look is really easy to pull off. Although a tailored suit does make a world of difference.

ASOS invited me to take part in a shoot for the 'As Seen On Me' campaign and I gladly accepted. Using Shoreditch as my backdrop, I shot two outfits that could not be more different from each other.

The first was a simple black/white lookbook while the second allowed me to wear my favourite plum colours and a trusty bobble hat.

An OOTD I've been dreaming of doing ever since I moved to London. I had an idea of doing lookbooks to a theme and 'Architectural Jawlines' did just that.

Pairing outfits with historic pieces of architecture allowed me to write about the area I'm shooting in as well as the outfit itself so there's something in the post for everyone.

Another one to add to the 'Architectural Jawlines' pile. This time I teamed up with the guys over at Farrell to shoot two lookbooks around the city.

With Tower Bridge and The Shard just around the corner I felt it would be interesting to explore the area and find out more about these iconic piece of British architecture.

Last but not least was my shoot for John Lewis with the supremely talented Joseph Kent from Unlimited by JK.

Although I blame this shoot for my continued obsession with trench coats, it was super fun to get out into the city nice and early and see it from a new perspective. Few crowds and carpets of orange leaves made this my favourite lookbook of 2015.

Style Inspiration 10 – 2015 Overview

Hard to believe it's been a year since the last time I put my annual review together but I can't say that I'm surprised. When you're having fun you don't really pay attention to the time as days and weeks sort of merge together into a never-ending story with you in the center. 2015 saw Style Division develop into a standalone fashion and lifestyle mag with contributors from all over the world although our tight control of quality over quantity has not diminished.

London Fashion Week

After missing out on LCM and London Fashion Week last year I was determined to make an appearance in 2015 and ended up covering both events in winter and in summer with shows, after parties and street style shots aplenty.

My 2016 writeups went online not too long ago and with London Fashion Week 2016 starting this week I hope to see some familiar faces and having a long overdue catchup.

More Outfits

My obsession with fashion has not died down. Although I have started getting involved with different areas of the fashion sphere, a small style shoot still gets me excited as you can only plan so much while the rest has to be spontaneous and done on the day.

I have put together a list of my favourite outfits from 2015 but you can stay up to date by following my OOTD blog, lookbook or Feels page 🙂

2015 was definitely the year to stretch the travel wings and with Google Flights and AirBNB making waves there's never been a better time to do so. I travelled around Italy, Spain, Montenegro, Ireland, Netherlands (to name a few), although it still feels like I've only scratched the surface.

My favourite post has got to be from Venice so give it a read if you wish to know more about that magical little place and follow my Travel Journal to stay up to date.

4 Inspiration Collections

In my 2014 overview I talked about starting 4 different journals with a focus on music, fashion, tech and visual inspirations. Although these have not been updated as often as I would have liked, each one added a new dimension to the blog and allowed me to showcase some of my different passions.

These inspiration collections will be further refined (or merged?) in 2016 so make sure to keep visiting so you don't miss out.

Photography Journals

My passion for photography has not dwindled and having recently acquired a Canon 7D there is now 0 excuse to take average pictures. The camera gives me a great excuse to explore London and continue updating my photography journals so the mag has a certain personal touch.

The Sigma lens is my next purchase as I wish to get up close and personal with my subjects and continue developing my eye for street style.
