Porto, Portugal // Photography Journal 63

Although I was only in Porto for a couple of hours I thought it'd be a waste to spend them at the train station so I grabbed my camera and went for a little wander. The Estádio do Dragão stadium was a most welcome surprise while the local delicacy 'Francesinha' invigorated my dormant taste buds into much needed action. The beer and tomato sauce sounds like a combination that really shouldn't work but hey, don't knock it till you've tried it.

I also arrived in Portugal at the most opportune time. The national team had just made it to the Euro 2016 final against France and the mood was electric. I honestly think Portugese people are the most laid back and happy people in the world. If you told them a meteor was coming and they had 1 day left to live they'd probably shrug and continue having a laugh. A mindset I can totally get behind.

Getting lost around Porto allowed me to see the side of the city I bet many tourists don't get to visit. From neighbourhoods with children playing five-a-side in the street to deserted beaches, I think my impromptu outing into Porto was a pretty successful one. Oh and by the way, if you like this new style of photography I'm trying out then I'm sure you're gonna love the next few articles I have hidden up my sleeve. No more muted tones, it's all about colour, colour, colour!

Things To Do In London 8

In the wise words of Mr Fresh Prince "Summer, summer, summertime. Time to sit back and unwind." Lounging by the pool for days on end has never appealed to me though so by unwinding I mean 'get up nice and early and fill your head with information'. Luckily I have some likeminded insomniac friends so these trips are anything but boring.

How could you not be fascinated by science? A field that dares to ask 'Why not?' and always pushes the boundaries of traditional thinking. The Science and Natural History Museums are some one of my favourite places in London to waste away an afternoon.

The geological Earth Sciences department is a treasure in of itself. As Carl Sagan brilliantly put it “The nitrogen in our DNA, the calcium in our teeth, the iron in our blood, the carbon in our apple pies were made in the interiors of collapsing stars. We are made of starstuff.” It's fascinating looking through all the different materials knowing that elements of them are present within us all.

I also got a little moment of victory as the entire day Krissy and I were discussing whether dinosaurs had feathers. Turns out that birds are some of their direct descendants and that there were multiple species of feathered dinosaurs. So take note men! You can win an argument against women, they tend to find it hard to fight against facts 🙂

V&A - Victoria and Albert Museum

[separator type="thin"]

victoria albert museum london

If science isn't your poison make sure to visit the the world's largest museum of decorative arts and design - The V&A. Housing a permanent collection of over 4.5 million objects, it was founded in 1852 and named after Queen Victoria and Prince www.bantuhealth.org/tadalafil-buy/ Albert. It's also right across the road so really, you have no excuses. At the time of our visit Clarks showcased a brilliant perspective into the history of shoes that I wish to share with you now.

Shoes are commodities and collectables. The luxurious and impractical shoes that clearly signal privilege and status have long been objects of desire. Today, a pair of shoes by Jimmy Choo or Prada is a more covered possession than any other item of clothing. Spending large amounts of money on a pair of shoes is pleasurable because it is excessive.

victoria albert museum london

Throughout the centuries and across cultures, footwear has symbolised high social status. Often impractical in decoration and shape, these shoes make a clear statement that the wearer does not engage in manual labour. The design of shoes has created many identifiable symbols of supremacy and privilege, from the red heels of Louis XIV's court to the elaborately embroidered moccasins worn by the Iroquois elite. These shoes just like a pair of Loubouti ns today, show that the wearer belongs to an exclusive circle.

Height is perhaps the most conspicuous way that social status can be represented. High shoes make the wearer literally stand above the crowd, easily spotted and admired in a gathering. From the platform sandals of ancient Greece to today's sleek stilettos, increased height creates a teetering object of desire.

Things To Do In London 7

They say life is short but if you think about it it's actually the longest thing you'll ever get to do. I think what 'they' actually mean is life is too short to spend on things you don't care about. There's an amazing Lenin quote that goes "There are decades where nothing happens; and there are weeks where decades happen." I got to experience this in full over the last few weeks as the cogs have started turning and my 2 year London experience is coming to a temporary close. With Brexit likely to disrupt countless lives over the coming year it's time to take control of my path and start a new adventure. But before I reveal the surprise here are some things you should check out in London this summer.

Hunterian Museum - Royal College of Surgeons

A few month ago my friend Ollie and I visited the Hunterian Museum in Holborn as I feel that everyone has a deep fascination with anatomy. The Hunterian Museum boasts unrivalled collections of human and non-human anatomical and pathological specimens, models, instruments, painting and sculptures that reveal the art and science of surgery from the 17th century to the present day.

There's something surreal about the whole place as you're stood mere inches away from anatomical specimens that feel almost alien. Except they're not. They're real and existed on this planet at some point in time. Funny to think that once you strip away the makeup, clothes and day to day prejudices, we're all the same beneath the skin.

kristina dimitrova anton dee

kristina dimitrova oliver albuquerqueIt doesn't really matter what you do in London but rather who you do it with. Even the most boring location can become the perfect backdrop for an afternoon of laughter and mindless exploration. Of course it never hurts to have a camera with you to capture those fleeting moments that are oh so rare in our busy and hectic lives. Krissy from INTERLACED // Kisses & Wires was of course on hand to spice up our afternoon with her insatiable laughter and a drive that would make Richard Branson blush.

Never one to say no to a spot of shopping we explored Soho and Oxford Street, doing our best to imitate 500 Days of Summer (Honey, the taps don't work!) and spending way to much money on Aesop's luxury hand creams. Having a magazine allows me a unique perspective on the nature of materialism. You can always have more stuff but it won't make you any happier. Surrounding yourself with people that make you laugh. Now that's luxury.

Be Somebody // Photography Journal 59

Part of the fun of living in London are the legendary acts that show up at your door on a weekly basis. I've previously covered some of our favourites but my recent trip Village Underground to see Clams Casino was an unforgettable experience. It epitomised everything I love about rave nights even if this one was set to a mellow hip hop soundtrack.

[separator type="thin"]

London at Night

[separator type="thin"]

As the night built up Clams played classics such as 'I'm God', 'Wassup', 'Bass' while intertwining them with standout tracks from his new album '32 Levels'. Village Underground provided the perfect atmosphere for the closer of the show, my new favourite song called 'Blast'. Basically a 2 minute culmination of everything that's brilliant about this one in a generation producer. Give it a blast:

As you can see from the pictures my broken XE-1 is still very much alive as I couldn't bear to sell it without taking it for one last stroll. It's been broken ever since my trip to Rome and just like then I feel a late night stroll can really clear ones mind. It also allows you to see a city in a completely unique glow and feel its energy that's really hard to show using pictures alone.

Model Walk // Photography Journal 58

What do you love about your city? If you ponder the question long enough I bet the true answer will surprise you. It's not the expensive restaurants and overpriced cocktails but the people and those priceless experiences. I've talked about my love for the Victoria Embankment in the past (and I shot one of my first lookbooks here not too long ago) so it's of little surprise that I find myself here again.

Saint Pablo // Journal 51

Hey guys, just wanted to say thank you to everyone who took the time out of their undoubtedly busy schedule to check out my blog. It honestly means a lot 🙂 I was actually thinking about the concept of time quite a lot recently and I came to the conclusion that it's the only commodity we all share in common. Whether you're rich or poor or live on the other side of the world - an hour is still an hour, the only difference is how you choose to spend it. Time is valuable although many of us don't seem to realise that.

I get a lot of emails and messages that ask me how I manage to stay on top of things and constantly produce great content. The bad news is that there is no right answer, you have to find a system that works for you. The good news is that everyone can do this. When you're first starting out in the world of blogging or writing you have absolutely no idea what you're doing, there's a feeling that you'll be 'found out' soon and all your hard work and accomplishments would have been for nothing. I'm here to dispel that myth and act as proof that hard work does pay off.

[separator type="thin"]

London Photography Journal 21

[separator type="thin"]

After a while you'll learn more about yourself, you'll learn what you enjoy doing and writing about as again you only have a limited amount of time and cannot write about absolutely everything (even though your itchy fingers want to). Think of each piece of content you produce as a message in a bottle you throw into the ocean. After a while some will start coming back and you will have to choose and begin saying 'NO' to people. For me that was the hardest lesson to learn but it wouldn't be a a great lesson if we found it easy.

Procrastination is a killer in all walks of life. When you're at work or university you might get given deadlines by your superiors or teachers or clients. This ensures that as the deadline draws nearer you step it up a gear and get everything done on time and (hopefully) under budget. But in life there is no deadline, there is no time limit for going to the gym or writing that blog post. That's why it's important to treat the brain as a muscle, you have to give it constant exercise otherwise it'll become dormant.

It wouldn't be a Style Division post without a hint of fashion so check out my trusty Murray sneakers from KG Kurt Geiger. I picked these up for LCM back in January but it feels like they've been in my wardrobe a lot longer. The classic rubber toecap and sole keeps the shoes relatively light and most important of all - comfortable. I've been wearing them with some ankle socks this summer and the look still works so if you're looking for versatility I would definitely recommend you grab yourself a pair.

Barcelona, Spain // Photography Journal 53

Lets be honest, the sheer act of traveling is a little bit of a hassle. I can never sit by the pool and just put my feet up for a few days but the unpredictable flight schedules, hotels and taxi troubles makes me understand the people who do. I was over in Rome and Bologna a couple of months ago and had to wait a day in Barcelona because of a cancelled flight. My Fuji was already smashed (as you will see by the dark marks in several of the pictures) so I thought Barcelona could serve as a perfect backdrop for its farewell.

Architecture in Barcelona

[separator type="thin"]

Many great painters and artists lived in Barcelona at some point in their lives and their influence is still evident throughout the city. Picasso and Miró have museums dedicated to their works while the Sagrada Família which was designed by Spanish architect Antoni Gaudí continues to generate a sense of awe.

The Sagrada Familia has three grand façades: the Nativity façade to the East, the Passion façade to the West, and the Glory façade to the South which is yet to be completed. Taking a small break by the pond and listening to a cello playing musician allowed me to really think about where I wish to take this platform. Over the course of the next 6 months all will be revealed but I still find myself thinking back to that moment and whether the gothic architecture had a part to play in my inspiration.

Once you've stayed in one nice hotel you've pretty much tried them all. The location might differ yet I always yearn for more. Airbnb allows me to really experience the city I'm staying in by linking up with a local and spending a few nights in their home.

While in Barcelona I stayed on a houseboat with a man called Mark who didn't take life too seriously and invited me along to a small party with his pals. Riding around Barcelona, sea breeze hitting my face, I thought you really cannot put a price on experiences. There is a monetary cost involved, of course, but the value you gain from the experience cannot be underestimated.

Its always been a dream of mine to see Lionel Messi in action. Although I support Chelsea FC it's difficult not to admire the little magician and what he's doing at FC Barcelona. The energy of the ground was pulsating as over 70,000 took the time out of their busy schedules to come together and create a one of a kind atmosphere.

They say football grounds are the modern day cathedrals and I'm inclined to agree. You come together to support a cause, sing songs and generally get delirious if your team scores a goal. By the 90 minute mark Suarez and Neymar both put one in the back of the next but Messi was nowhere to be seen. As I was contemplating leaving to beat the traffic Barcelona got a free kick in the 93rd minute. You can guess what happened next 🙂

Bologna, Italy // Photography Journal 52

Every time I visit Italy my train passes Bologna and I just can't help but jump out, even for a couple of hours. Bologna boasts a one of a kind atmosphere that's hard to replicate, even with other Italian cities. As the touristy crowds flock to Milan or Florence, Bologna holds its own with a long mediaeval history, intricate architecture and best of all - amazing locals.

[separator type="thin"]

I was born in Ivano Frankivsk, Ukraine so I feel that Bologna and its architectural style remind me of my childhood. As you grow you begin to have a deeper appreciation for the smaller things in life many take for granted. Luckily my phone doesn't work properly abroad so instead of staring down I look up and try to find pleasure in geometry. An intersection of straight and curved lines, Bologna with its many porticoes and medieval Roman buildings is always a delight.

I started this blog for myself, not for anyone else. I wanted to have a space that reflects my vision of the world rather than just dumping pictures on Facebook and forgetting about them. I want you guys to come on this journey with me. My writing may not always be the best but believe me I'm trying 🙂 While in Italy I decided to try my hand at poetry. All that wine and culture must have got to me and I had an insatiable urge to write something from within. You can check it out below:
